Social Purpose

Give everyone on the path to recovery a fighting chance by providing housing, food security, mental health support, and harm reduction services.

What we do

We help people overcome addiction safely and effectively, while preventing relapse and equipping them with the foundation skills required for self-sufficiency. With doctor-led, opioid replacement treatment at its core, our program is all-encompassing, ensuring recovery is supported with food, housing and counselling. Simply put, we save lives, get folks off the streets and reintegrated into their communities.

How we do it

We see addiction as a mental health issue, requiring an approach centred in medicine. Using Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT), we help individuals transition away from opioid dependence through medically assisted treatment options such as methadone and suboxone. Clients in need receive nourishing food, a warm bed and compassionate counselling support – to minimize relapse and maximize opportunities for self-reliance and community reintegration – through our hub of medical staff, counsellors and outreach workers.

Why we do it

Addiction hurts everyone. And it doesn’t discriminate. It can take hold of anyone, at any time. You, me, our friends, families, colleagues and neighbours. Its hold is powerful. It can rip through families and entire communities. And it kills – at a rate of ~2000 fellow British Columbians each year. Opioid addiction is a public health crisis. Battling it can be tough, with limited success. Now imagine doing it without housing, food or support.

At the Fraser Valley Addictions & Recovery Hub we believe that everyone deserves stability, dignity, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives – regardless of their circumstances. Unlike many conventional rehab programs, we not only provide life-saving support through OAT, we provide the essential wraparound services required to help clients rebuild stability and independence longer term. Our continuum of care is at the root of our success. By transitioning away from opioids, having food in their bellies and warm bed to call home, individuals become more stable, more receptive to counselling and more aware of harm reduction.

Our hub and network of support in the Fraser Valley is extensive. And inclusive. Some may be experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity. Others may be in need of food security and harm reduction support. Whether they are seniors, youth, refugees or other marginalized groups experiencing addiction and mental health challenges, they are all in need of stability, and all deserve our care.

We believe in reducing the stigma associated with substance use and breaking the barriers to treatment. We believe that everyone deserves a second chance and a supportive environment to rebuild their lives. We believe that when communities come together to support their most vulnerable, everyone thrives. We believe in creating long-term solutions that empower individuals on their journey toward recovery and self-sufficiency. We believe in providing opportunities for community engagement and reintegration, through volunteerism and employment pathways. And as a result, we see safer streets, less homelessness and reduced crime.

We believe in long-term solutions, not band-aid fixes. The bottom line? At Fraser Valley Addictions & Recovery Hub, our programs are proven to help individuals transition from crisis to stability. Since our inception in 2019, we’ve seen 3100 individuals successfully reintegrate into their communities. We’ve fed 50,000 individuals and housed 250. And at this very moment, 250 individuals are in our care, with a further 50 off the streets and into warm beds. We believe in creating healthier communities filled with hope and compassion. We believe in uplifting vulnerable groups, and that together we can co-create communities free of stigma and full of possibility.

Our Story

Fraser Valley Addictions & Recovery Hub (formerly Food for the Soul Project Society) began with a simple act of care—a meal for someone who needed it. From those grassroots beginnings, we’ve grown into a community-powered hub supporting individuals across multiple cities in BC.

We are:

  • A bridge between medical support and daily survival
  • A safe space for those who’ve been turned away elsewhere
  • A voice for those rebuilding their lives, step by step
  • A team of lived-experience leaders, professionals, volunteers, and peers

Our name may have changed, but our mission has always been the same: to meet the community where it’s at, and grow together from there.
